Bob Peters’ Sweet Disposition

A runner up in his two most recent starts, the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes behind Stratum Star and the Toorak Handicap behind Lucky Hussler, Reset’s four-year-old son gave Western Australian breeder/owner Bob and Sandra Peters the first leg of a stakes double, winning the Group 3 Guvera Stakes. Settling further back than normal after a slightly slow get away, jockey Damien Oliver didn’t panic, allowing Disposition to find his feet early on before riding for luck along the inside rail. As Godolphin’s San Diego, who interestingly was a runner in the Derby two years prior hit the lead, the Lee and Anthony Freedman-trained Disposition squeezed through on the rail to take the lead, fighting hard to win the race by a half-neck margin.
The second leg of the stakes double for Peter Investments saw five-year-old Desert King mare Real Love return from a break to win the Group 3 Asian Beau Stakes at Ascot, Western Australia by three-parts of a length. A winner of the Group 2 Perth Cup on January 1, the mare is the second winner of the Asian Beau Stakes for her dam after the 2002 victory of Suspicion (Mukddaam). Finishing in second for the 2014/15 racing season to Godolphin as the leading breeder of black-type winners on 26, Peters Investments currently holds that same position this year, but could add their first Group 1 victory of the season when Disposition backs up in Saturday’s Group 1 Emirates Stakes. “Provided he has a good week he will definitely back up,” Lee Freedman said. “He’ll actually go well on the back-up because he is a big, gross horse and needs the racing.” Disposition is the first foal out of the Testa Rossa mare Test Case, who is due to foal this season to Reset once again, producing a full sibling to Disposition, while Flaming Heart, the dam of Real Love retired from stud duties a few season back. Test Case foaled a colt by Reset on August 29, and recently had a positive scan to the same sire after being covered in late September. Back to Newsletter
