Exosphere In A World Of His Own

A day after watching his star colt Exosphere so brilliantly announce himself as the latest superstar of Australian racing, trainer John O’Shea was still coming to terms with what he’d seen Randwick on Saturday. “The pleasure and pride I have in seeing a horse like him win for the whole team is incredible,” O’Shea said. “I get excited every time I put the saddle on him.”. The next time O’Shea performs that duty pre-race will be at Flemington on Derby Day when Exosphere runs in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) – a race whose recent history is full of quality. The 2014 running of the race regarded as Melbourne premier 3YO sprint was Brazen Beau and in 2013 it was won by Zoustar, both of whom have made celebrated entries into the stallion ranks. Other recent winners include the sought-after stallion Sepoy and the proven producer, Northern Meteor. Exosphere’s G2 Roman Consul Stakes win provided the highlight of a stellar day for the the O’Shea stable and Dubai-based owner Godolphin, who had five of the nine winners at Randwick. While Exosphere was clearly the standout, the two-year-old filly Calliope who won the Listed Gimcrack Stakes after blowing the start with the filly Ambience revealing Oaks pretensions with her win in the Listed Dulcify Quality (1600m) and Complacent winning the Group 3 Craven Plate.
