In Wednesday’s edition of The Thoroughbred Report, TTR AusNZ recaps the new stallions to Victoria, those who have moved on, and those with significant fee increases.
Adam Sangster’s Swettenham Stud continued its investment and commitment to the Victorian-breeding industry growing its roster to six stallions and introducing the blue-blooded Lofty Strike!
Swettenham Strikes
In May, Swettenham Stud announced the acquisition of the talented Lofty Strike to stand on its roster. The striking son of Snitzel will stand at a debut fee of $22,000 (inc GST). His sire, Snitzel, is a four-time Champion Sire and needs no introduction.
Lofty Strike also boasts a strong dam side. His dam, Overreach, a daughter of Exceed And Excel, was crowned the Champion 2-Year-Old Filly in Australia, winning the G1 Golden Slipper, the G2 Reisling S., and the G2 Widden S. Additionally, she is a three-quarter-sister to the G1 Blue Diamond S. winner, Reward For Effort.
Lofty Strike also brings performance to the table. He succeeded on debut at Flemington and followed up with a win in the G3 Blue Diamond Prelude (Colts and Geldings), elevating him to favouritism in the G1 Blue Diamond. However, Lofty Strike was controversially scratched on race morning. Returning as an older horse, Lofty Strike won the G2 Rubiton S. and was placed in the G1 Newmarket H., the G1 Oakleigh Plate, and was fourth in the G1 Coolmore Stud S. and G1 Goodwood H.
