It was Father & Son day at Ascot on Saturday with firstly, Sean Casey (trainer) and son Jake (jockey) combining to capture the Group Three AJ Scahill Stakes (1400m) with Vega Magic, before Neville Parnham (trainer) and Chris (jockey) repeated the dose in the Listed RS Crawford Stakes (1000m) via Malibu Style.

It was the first stakes victory for Malibu Style who has otherwise compiled an impressive resume with six wins and 11 placings from just 26 starts.

Not surprisingly, Parnham senior – who is also the sire of two other jockeys in Steven and Brad – was very happy with Chris’s ‘steering’ on Malibu Style and said: “it was a beautiful ride and worked out perfectly”.

Parnham also pointed to the Listed Summer Scorcher at Ascot on New Year’s Eve as Malibu Style’s next assignment: “we’ll keep him (Malibu Style) fresh for the Summer Scorcher and then bring him back for a winter prep.”

Interestingly, Malibu Style is out of a half sister to the N Parham trained, S Parnham ridden Excelorada who completed the RS Crawford / Summer Scorcher double four years ago.

Bred by John North’s Bowness Stud, Malibu Style was offered at the 2013 Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale where he was snapped up by Parnham for $40,000, which sits pretty nice next to his current track earnings of $309,725.

Malibu Style is the 13th individual stakes winner for the Sun Stud, Victoria based sire, Magnus, who has enjoyed considerable success in the West through Group One winning mare, Magnifisio, and fellow stakes winners, Great Shot and The River.

HOOFNOTE: Magnus was raced to Group One success by Rob Crabtree, whose red and white checks were on display last Friday night with the David Hayes trained debutante, Catchy, who won impressively over 1000m at Moonee Valley.

A 2YO filly by Fastnet Rock, Crabtree purchased Catchy for $220,000 at the 2016 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and, like Malibu Style, is out of a Fusaichi Pegasus mare.
